Business hasn’t dried up. What has dried up is relying on social media posts and hoping they bring in work. I am seeing more and more businesses saying enquiries are slow, bookings are down and things feel quieter than they used to, yet when you look at what they are doing for marketing it is usually the same thing repeated over and over with no real plan behind it. Posting on Facebook or Instagram is not a marketing strategy on its own, it is one small part of it, and when that is all you are doing you are completely reliant on an algorithm to decide whether your business gets seen or not. Proper marketing is joined up. Your social media, your website, your Google presence, your local visibility, your messaging and how consistently people see you all need to work together if you want a steady flow of enquiries rather than peaks and drops. This is exactly where most businesses are falling short right now and it is why things feel unpredictable. At First Turn Media the focus is simple. Years ago, you could post a few times a week and Facebook or Instagram would actually show your content to people who didn’t already follow you. That’s how a lot of businesses grew. That has changed - bummer right! Now, your posts are mostly shown to your existing followers. Not new customers. Not people actively looking for what you do. Just the same small audience, over and over. So when business slows down and you carry on posting more of the same, nothing changes. Because your visibility hasn’t changed. This is the bit a lot of people don’t want to hear. If you are not running ads, you are not reaching new people.
